HIGH SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

LOCATION:  Amherst Central High School

SALARY:  $92,500.+ (Competitive and commensurate with experience)

START DATE:  July 1, 2026

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of five years successful experience in education, including teaching, supervision and/or administration
  • Graduate study beyond the Master's degree with emphasis on High school (9-12) curriculum, supervision, and/or administration
  • NYS School Building Leader (SBL), School Administrator & Supervisor (SAS) or School District Administrator (SDA) certification required or eligible through Interstate agreement.
  • Demonstrate ability to :
    • provide leadership and work effectively with staff members, colleagues, parents, and others in  the educational community
    • use creative problem-solving and decision-making skills
    • provide a positive learning environment resulting in continuous improvement for students and staff
    • speak and write clearly and effectively 
  • Must be fingerprinted through the NYS Department of Education (see attached).

ESSENTIAL CORE CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Supervises and evaluates professional and support staff assigned to the building.
  • Assists in screening, interviewing and recommending candidates for professional and support staff positions.
  • Oversees the function of all programs, plans, software and equipment related to instructional and administrative technology use.
  • Participates with master schedule, manages student scheduling, and helps determine room utilization
  • Supervises evening and weekend activities.
  • Coordinates student activities and events (e.g. field trips, co-curricular and/or extra-curricular, wellness events)
  • Coordinates the administration of AP examinations, Regents and Local exams, and related data reporting and state reports.
  • Works closely with Principal and Department Heads on curriculum programming.
  • Coordinates summer school, home instruction, credit recovery and 9th grade transition programs.
  • Monitors faculty supervisory assignments.
  • Supervises details related to the opening day of school.
  • Participates in placement of student teachers.
  • Organizes parent conferences and open house.
  • Assumes all responsibilities of the Principal in the Principal's absence.
  • Assumes responsibility for other tasks as assigned by the Principal.
