TEACHING ASSISTANT — (ISS) IN-SCHOOL SUSPENSION
LOCATION: Amherst Central High School
HOURS: 35 hrs/week (8:00am - 3:30pm)
SALARY: $19.50/hour, plus payment for additional credit hours, if applicable
START DATE: September 8, 2026
BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
An In-School Suspension (ISS) Supervisor oversees students assigned to disciplinary suspension on campus. Their primary goal is maintaining a quiet and structured study environment for students to complete academic assignments. They enforce rules, log attendance, and coordinate directly with teachers, counselors, and administrators.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Academic Assistance: collecting assignments and tests from teachers, assisting students with coursework, and returning completed work at the end of the day.
- Behavior Management: reviewing suspension rules upon arrival, mediating conflicts, and facilitating a space for students to engage in restorative practices.
- Compliance & Logistics: enforcing a no-talking or electronics policy, taking attendance, managing bathroom breaks, and ensuring students receive lunch.
- Collaboration: communicating with Assistant Principals about recurring behavior issues and reporting uncooperative students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Teaching Assistants MUST HAVE a Teaching Assistant Certification OR NYS Teacher Certification
- Must be fingerprinted by the NYS Department of Education - Fingerprint Procedure attached
